Probation and After-Care Service report

• over 20,000 hours of community service work was performed by offenders for Jersey not-for-profit organisations and charities, as an alternative to serving a prison sentence
• the Jersey Family Court Advisory Service has absorbed £200,000 worth of children’s guardian work which previously would have been outsourced
• the work pioneered by JPACS in establishing and measuring effective individual supervision practice has been recognised internationally and is being embedded locally through training and supervision
• an inspection into community service was published and an inspection into social enquiry report practice for the courts has been conducted

• the inspection report into social enquiry report practice will be published
• the latest in a series of reconviction data for people sentenced by the Jersey Courts will be published
• the services provided for the family division of the Royal Court will be inspected
• the emphasis on developing and maintaining probation officers’ supervision skills will be continued
• the Service aims to increase the proportion of prisoners who choose to keep in contact post release through voluntary after-care
• JPACS will work with partner agencies through the ‘Lean’ methodology to ensure that vital multi-agency processes are as efficient as possible
• JPACS will ensure that it is ready to comply with both the spirit and legalities of the freedom of information legislation due in 2015
