A local environmental scheme to help businesses become more efficient and reduce running costs is to re-launch next week (26 March).
Eco-Active Business is a free States-run environmental accreditation scheme that helps small and large businesses become both green and lean; reducing waste and energy consumption.
On 26 March, Eco Active Business is launching with a simpler and more up to date programme. People attending the launch reception can attend a seminar on the implications of environmental law for their business, and companies that have moved through the various accreditation levels will receive awards at the event.
Planning and Environment Minister, Deputy Rob Duhamel said “From the results achieved by the many successful enterprises already with the scheme, I’d encourage any business, large or small to consider joining the Eco-Active Business programme.
“From a corporate and social responsibility perspective, it’ll help you manage waste and reduce consumption, and from a business perspective, it’ll save you money. And it’s in line with what every developing country is doing to try to tread more lightly.”
Many local companies have signed up after seeing what good business sense it makes. The costs of maintaining an office building at a comfortable temperature, providing hot water, and running electrical equipment are unavoidable.
But firms can reduce those costs and give their company an element of protection from rising energy costs by introducing some basic good practice, which may also include complying with any relevant environmental legislation.
