The Australian High Commissioner to the UK, His Excellency The Hon Alexander Downer AC, will visit Jersey on 19 and 20 October 2015.
The High Commissioner will join the Chief Minster, Senator Ian Gorst, the Bailiff, Mr William Bailhache, and the Lieutenant Governor, General Sir John McColl, at a public ceremony at the Cenotaph on 19 October at 4.15pm. The ceremony will allow Jersey’s Australian and New Zealand residents to formally recognise the sacrifice of the Anzac forces as part of the centenary commemorations of the Gallipoli campaign.
Also on 19 October, the High Commissioner will attend a reception for the Island’s Australian community at the Town Hall at 5pm.
Senator Gorst commented “Australia is an important member of the G20 and I am pleased to welcome the Australian High Commissioner to the Island. It will also be a valuable opportunity for Jersey’s Australian and New Zealand residents to commemorate the sacrifice of Anzac troops during this particular significant centenary year.”
During his visit, the High Commissioner will also meet the Economic Development Minster, Senator Lyndon Farnham, and will be officially welcomed at the sitting of the States Assembly on the morning of 20 October. He will stay as a guest of the Lieutenant Governor at Government House and will be the guest of honour at a dinner hosted by the Bailiff.
