People in Jersey are being reminded that they have until Friday 28 August to give their views on proposals for one hour free parking on the upper level of the Red Houses car park in St Brelade.
The upper level has 47 spaces and is currently a paycard car park. Transport and Technical Services (TTS) has been approached by Waitrose who would like to lease spaces and release these to the public as free one hour disc parking. The spaces would not be used by Waitrose staff.
In the proposal, TTS would keep seven spaces in this area for all day and season ticket parking and the remaining 40 spaces would be leased by Waitrose. Recent research shows that about two vehicles stay all day and that the car park's upper level is on average only 15% full.
The car park's policing, enforcement and administration would still be carried out by TTS.
The Co-op currently leases the lower level of the car park and releases these spaces for free one hour disc parking in a similar way to the Waitrose proposal.
