Driver and Vehicle Standards (DVS) are now selling five and six-digit registration marks (J numbers) over the counter at its offices at La Collette.
Any member of the public who is interested in buying a specific number plate can check what numbers are available for sale on a self-service computer in the DVS reception. They can then obtain the right to display that number for a £250 fee.
The new service has been introduced in answer to demand from customers wanting to select specific J numbers, such as dates of birth, lucky numbers, vehicle model numbers, or those that are easy to remember.
The current range extends to 311299 (although obviously not all numbers in that range are available) and there is potential for extending the range further.
Service to go online
Initially this service will only be available at the DVS office but it is envisaged the list will go online following a trial period.
DVS will continue to hold an annual auction of three and four digit and JSY numbers, along with special or interesting numbers.
Deputy Eddie Noel, Minister for Transport and Technical Services, said “Listening to the public, we have found that there are quite a number of people who want specific number plates for one reason or another. This new service makes it easier for them to acquire their cherished number.”
