People can now choose and reserve a specific five or six digit car registration number online.
Anyone keen to buy a specific number plate can now look online at the Driver and Vehicle Standards (DVS) section of www.gov.je and reserve their chosen number. For a £250 fee (payable at the DVS offices) they get the right to display their chosen number on their car. There is also a self-service computer in the DVS reception.
This new service has been introduced in answer to demand from customers wanting to select specific numbers to display on their vehicles, such as dates of birth, lucky numbers, easy to remember numbers as well as certain vehicle model numbers. The current range of numbers extends to 311299 (although not all numbers in that range are available) and there is potential for extending the range further in the future.
Annual auction
Initially this service was only available at the DVS office. However, following a successful trial period, the reservation process has now gone online. DVS will continue to hold an annual auction where three and four digit and JSY numbers, along with very special or interesting numbers will go under the hammer.
Deputy Eddie Noel, Minister for Transport and Technical Services said “We have sold 168 numbers since the scheme was introduced in early May. Being able to browse the list in the comfort of your own home and reserve your chosen number for a week, just enhances the service to the public.”
