Transport and Technical Services (TTS) has cleared seaweed that has built up in St Aubin's Bay.
A large amount of thick seaweed had built up over the last week or so. It had been hoped that recent high tides would take it away naturally. This hasn’t happened and there is now a period of neap tides which don't reach and effectively move the stranded weed.
The department doesn't usually clear weed at this time of year but after seeking permission from the Environment Department, it moved it from the top of the beach between the Gunsite and La Haule slip, down to the low tide mark.
Minister for Transport and Technical Services, Deputy Eddie Noel said “I can’t remember having seen this thickness of seaweed before in November. Hopefully, this is a one-off but we felt we had to act in this instance.”
