Work starts on Grenville Street crossing

05 January 2015

Work on a new zebra crossing at Grenville Street begins tomorrow (Tuesday 6 January 2015).

The new crossing, which will be located at the junction of Green Street and Little Green Street will link the pavement outside Bohemia to the pavement by the public toilets via the central reservation. It is required due to the high number of pedestrians, particularly those on their way to and from Green Street car park, who need to cross this junction.

Improved safety

To ensure the zebra crossing operates safely the road-side footpaths will be widened, the existing central island re-modelled, and the street lighting in the immediate area improved.

A crossing cannot be provided from the central reservation to the north side of the junction because it poses a safety risk as drivers coming around the corner would not see crossing pedestrians in time.

Phased approach

The project which will be undertaken by Transport and Technical Services will be carried out in 6 phases to minimise traffic disruption. It will involve lane closures and small local diversions between 9am and 6pm. The work is expected to take 5 to 6 weeks, depending on the weather, and will have no impact on the entrance to Green Street Car Park.
