Call to help shape Jersey’s digital future

29 July 2016

A call for Islanders to help shape the vision for Jersey’s digital future has been reissued for the final week of the public consultation on the Digital Policy Framework.

The consultation, which opened on 10 June, closes on 5 August. The consultation is designed to find out people’s views on how Jersey will capitalise on digital technology in the future through:

  • an efficient government: create an efficient government, where high-quality public services are simply and effectively delivered through digital channels
  • a diverse economy: support a diverse and innovative economy that develops and uses digital technology to drive economic growth and employment
  • a connected society: foster a digitally connected society in which all people can access and benefit from the latest technology, and that provides a digitally skilled pool of employees.

The Assistant Chief Minister for financial services, competition, innovation and digital, Senator Philip Ozouf, said “Jersey’s draft Digital Policy Framework has received so much constructive feedback from the digital sector, but it is also important that the wider community has their say. If you have a view on fibre broadband, eGov, the quality of digital education in schools, or how your personal details are managed and protected – we want to hear from you.”

Senator Ozouf said that over the course of the consultation period he had spoken to business representatives, including those who attended the Chamber of Commerce event earlier this year, had positive conversations on Twitter and the team had held a number of workshops.

“The consultation closes on Friday but the conversation needs to continue. This framework represents the first time that an overarching approach to digital strategy has been produced for the Island, and it will make a difference to all of our lives. Tell us how Jersey should be using technology to improve our government, our economy and our lives,” said Senator Ozouf.
