The Chief Executive of the States of Jersey has made the following statement:
A review of the States of Jersey’s travel policy is now underway. It is considering whether the organisation has appropriate policies in place to ensure that any travel is undertaken only where operationally necessary and that the cost of travel represents best value for money.
I have also instigated a procedure under the Chief Officers’ disciplinary code to establish the facts of the recent trip to South Africa. The investigation will be undertaken by the Chief Internal Auditor with assistance from an external specialist with experience in undertaking such reviews. Once the facts have been established I will decide, in accordance with the relevant disciplinary code, what further measures are necessary. I will then report to the States Employment Board.
The code requires confidentiality from all parties while proceedings are underway, so there will be no further comment until the matter is resolved.
