Islanders are being asked to join millions of people around the world in turning off their lights as part of Earth Hour 2016 on Saturday 19 March between 8.30 pm and 9.30 pm.
As a demonstration of its commitment to reducing energy consumption, the States of Jersey will switch off lights at Mont Orgueil and Elizabeth Castle, Victoria Avenue Promenade, St Brelade’s Bay, Liberation Square and the Fort Regent dome.
Department of the Environment Eco Active Programme Manager, Jane Burns said “We’d really love to get as many Islanders as possible to switch unnecessary lights off at home and at work for Earth Hour this Saturday. It is a great reminder that small actions can reduce our everyday energy use.
“Eco active businesses are getting involved. The Radisson Blu hotel which is one of our leader eco active businesses is hosting ‘Earth Hour at the Waterfront’. This includes a three-course meal with an earthy menu, created using local and sustainable ingredients. Cosy low lighting will ensure that you are not left in the dark, and the music is even acoustic!”
