Makeover under way at the Children's Library

01 December 2016

The children’s area at Jersey Library is having its first major facelift since the building opened over 25 years ago.

The library team are aiming to create a colourful and inspiring place for youngsters to develop a lifelong love of reading. The Children’s Library is being redecorated and refurbished and will have new, flexible shelving, new computers (provided by Barclays) and new children’s furniture.

Chief Librarian Ed Jewell said “We want to create a library that inspires and excites, with comfortable seating and colourful shelving, a space where you can get lost in a good book, take part in great activities and get online to do your homework.”

While the work is carried out, the Children’s Library has been temporarily relocated to an area at the front of the town library. Customers can also use the Branch Library at Les Quennevais and the mobile library. Books from these libraries can be returned to town for convenience.

There is also have a large selection of children’s books and comics available to download for free from our website.

Education Minister Deputy Rod Bryans said “We want the Children’s Library to be a place where people relax, have fun and fall in love with reading. This work will give it a new lease of live and make it even more child-focussed. Thank you to the library team for their vision and hard work.”
