High uptake of E bike grant

28 June 2016

More than 200 people have already applied for a grant for an electric bike under the scheme operated by the Department of Infrastructure (DfI).

In order to make the money available go further, the scheme has been amended and from 1 July, the grant will be for 20% of the value of the electric bike up to a maximum of £300.

The introduction of the discount is part of the car2cycle scheme which supports the aims of the States of Jersey Sustainable Transport Policy by making electric bikes more attractive and affordable.

E bikes are more sustainable as they:

  • have zero emissions
  • have no parking fees or petrol costs
  • offer a healthy alternative for commuting
  • make cycling easier.

Anyone interested in buying an E bike with the discount must complete an application form and take this along with photo identification and proof of address to Sand Street Parking Control or Driver and Vehicle Standards (DVS). Upon receipt of an approved application form, there is 4 weeks to redeem the discount at participating retailers.

Deputy Eddie Noel, Minister for Infrastructure said “I've spoken to people who are selling one of their cars and buying electric bikes to commute to work. This is exactly what this scheme is trying to encourage.”

Applications forms are available from participating retailers and online.
