St Brelade household recycling collection

22 March 2016

The Department for Infrastructure (DfI) and the Parish of St Brelade are pleased to confirm that a household recycling collection will start in May.

From today (22 March 2016), the Parish refuse contractor, Premier Waste Management, will start to deliver recycling boxes and bins to homes across the parish in preparation for the first collection. The boxes and bins have been provided by DfI as part of the Department’s ongoing commitment to support parishes implement household recycling collections.

Homes will receive a set of three recycling boxes or, where bin storage is shared, a set of recycling bins will be provided to collect paper and cardboard, plastic bottles and metal packaging.

Information for residents

A leaflet is also being delivered to all homes to explain what can and can’t be put into the recycling boxes/bins and a collection planner is included so residents know what recycling is being collected each week at the same time as the existing rubbish and glass collections.

Deputy Eddie Noel, Minister for DfI, said "The Parish of St Brelade household recycling collection will make recycling easier for over 10,000 parishioners and this is a significant step forward for recycling in Jersey. We are working with the six remaining Parishes, that are not yet providing recycling collections, to achieve a timescale for making recycling simpler and more convenient for every island household."

Connétable for St. Brelade Steve Pallett said "I am delighted that from May onwards every home in St. Brelade will receive a recycling collection. This is a service that residents have asked the Parish to provide and our contractor, Premier Waste Management, has worked with the Department for Infrastructure to develop a scheme that fits the diverse needs of St. Brelade."

In addition to receiving a leaflet that explains the new Parish recycling scheme, other communications are planned to help residents in St. Brelade prepare for the first collection in May.  This includes a Parish roadshow by the DfI Recycle for Jersey Team to raise awareness and help answer any questions.
