The Jersey Architecture Design Awards, which celebrate and promote the work of local architects and designers, are to be officially launched tonight (Thursday 20 April).
The Jersey Architecture Design Awards are held every two years to celebrate and promote high quality design created and achieved by Jersey architects, designers and developers.
The competition is a joint enterprise between the Department of the Environment and the Association of Jersey Architects and is open to anyone who has delivered a project that they think has contributed positively to the built environment of Jersey.
The competition launch will take place at St Helier Town Hall between 6.30 pm and 7.30 pm. The event is free and open to everyone. The Minister for the Environment, Deputy Steve Luce will introduce the awards and Jersey Architecture Commissioner Antony Gibb will talk about the work of the Commission and its role in the Design Awards.
Deputy Luce said “The Jersey Design Awards is a long-established competition that helps raise the bar for architectural design in Jersey. It’s not always about the big projects – important through they are – small, well designed and thoughtful projects can often make a significant difference to our community, and to our quality of everyday life. These awards provide a platform for that design and test it against national standards.”
Newly appointed JAC commissioner David Levitt will give a short presentation on the work of his award-winning architectural practice, Levitt Bernstein. Based in London and Manchester, it is known for its work on social housing and community-based architecture.
