The application to build a new secondary school in the west of the Island was approved today by the Planning Committee.
Construction of the new Les Quennevais School on fields next to La Route de Quennevais and Rue Carrée will start as soon as possible in 2018, with a target date for the first lessons at the school being September 2020.
The £45 million project will be the biggest single investment in education in Jersey's history and the first new secondary school in more than a decade.
Education Minister, Deputy Rod Bryans, said “I am over the moon at today’s decision and thrilled for the staff, pupils and parishioners who will benefit from this fantastic new facility. It has taken a great deal of hard work by many, many people to get to this point and I would like to express sincere thanks to everyone involved.”
Infrastructure Minister, Deputy Eddie Noel, said “I’m delighted that the panel have passed this application and look forward now to be able to move ahead with the project and get the school open as soon as possible.”
