Phone payment is being rolled out to on-street locations from Tuesday 28 November.
The Department for Infrastructutre introduced the PayByPhone system in September, first in one car park and then gradually extending the service to cover the other car parks (with the exception of Sand Street). Drivers can still use paycards as an alternative at all sites.
From Tuesday next week, people will be able to use PayByPhone when parking in the various street locations.
Motorists will be able to use PayByPhone to pay for their parking using a credit or debit card from their parking place in the street using their mobile and entering the location code on the nearby signage.
Minister for Infrastructure, Deputy Eddie Noel, said “The new PayByPhone system has been really well received in our car parks and people have been asking if and when they will be able to use it on street, so I am pleased that we are able to roll it out to street parking so quickly.”
Anyone who has not already registered and wants to use this new system can register now with PayByPhone from their computer, tablet or phone in readiness for when the system goes live on-street on 28 November.
The easiest way is by downloading the iOS or Android app or by logging onto paybyphone.co.uk from a mobile device or desktop and selecting the Register option.
From there, you can enter your vehicle registration (including the ‘J’), your mobile phone number, email and credit card details.
Once registered it is very easy to use the new system by accessing your account and providing the location number found on the signage in the street or in the car park.
If you do not want to receive text reminders or text receipts, which are chargeable at 10p each, you must turn off that option. Otherwise, the charge is the same as paycards. Further information is available on smartparking.
