A phased project of road resurfacing including St Peter's Valley is to begin in January.
The Department for Infrastructure (DfI) is giving advance notification of the work which will start at the junction of St Aubin's Road and Mont Felard then continue west towards Bel Royal and north along La Vallee de Saint Pierre to approximately 370m south of the junction of La Dimerie.
The project consists of 15 phases running through until June 2018. Work is being timed to avoid peak traffic hours but this does mean evening and weekend working. The extent of each phase, working hours and traffic management are shown on the below map.
St Peter's Valley resurfacing map
This road is a high priority for maintenance as it is one of the Island’s main north-south arterial routes and is showing signs of fatigue and has a poor ride quality.
Businesses will remain open throughout the work and can be accessed, along with homes along the route, by using local diversions.
Access to homes and businesses will be maintained, although will be restricted when the final road surface is being laid.
Diversions for through traffic will be via:
- Rue de la Frontiere, Carrefour Selous, and St Lawrence
- St Peter, La Route de Beaumont and La Route de la Haule
Bus Routes 8, 9, 12A, 15, 22 and 28 will continue to operate, however the route and timetable may have to be altered depending on where the work is being done.
Some enabling work is being undertaken in advance of the main project. Improvement work to the embankment is required by a section of road north of the junction of Le Mont du Presbytere.
When the project starts, information on the progress of the work will be posted online to include the current phase and the local diversion routes.
