Fostering and adoption are launching their first creative writing competition. The aim of the competition is to create a positive platform to share voices and raise awareness about local fostering and adoption.
The initiative gives young people the opportunity to share their stories and creates a platform for young voices to be heard through a creative medium, whilst helping others understand and reflect on their experiences.
The competition
The competition is open to local children and young adults that have been fostered, adopted or are biological children of foster and adoptive parents.
It’s open to all ages and split in five categories as follows:
- ages 5 to 7 up to 100 words supported with pictures
- ages 7 to 11 up to 150 words
- ages 11 to 14 up to 250 words
- ages 14 to 18 up to 500 words
- ages 18 + up to 750 words
Entries can be in any form, as long as it’s an original story and a personal account, for example:
- a poem
- a short story
- a diary entry
- a rap song
The subject is open to your own personal interpretation, but you should include and reflect on the subject of ‘New Beginnings’ expressing a special moment that marked a turning point, or a fork in the road.

The closing date for entries is Monday 18 September.
Prizes
There are some fantastic prizes to be won including:

Three winners will be chosen from each category by our panel of judges including writers, journalists and media professionals.
