The Department for Infrastructure (DfI) has announced its fees and charges for 2018 across the range of their services, with the exception of parking charges.
Most of the price increases have been kept in line with the 2.5% States guidelines which is below inflation ( rounded to the nearest whole pound where necessary for Driver and Vehicle Standards (DVS)).
However, there are some waste charges that are increasing to enable DfI to cover the costs of providing the service.
To enable contractors to incorporate these price changes in their rates, the following charge increases will not come into force until 2 April 2018 :
- commercial green waste
- plasterboard
- non-recyclable inert waste.
To enable cost recovery, commercial green waste charges will increase from £20.35 to £63 per tonne. The charge was originally introduced in 2012, but had not been based on full cost recovery and therefore had been heavily subsidised by the tax payer.
DfI will still not charge for domestic green waste.
The charge for plasterboard will also increase to £63 from the current price of £52.50.
Non-recyclable inert waste will be subject to the increased charge of £19.95 per tonne from 2 April 2018.
This level of charge compares well with the charges levied in other jurisdictions.
In contrast, the cost of disposal of high grade paper (eg for secure disposal of documents) has reduced to be more in line with alternatives.
The minimum charge has reduced from £22.64 to £15.75 and the charge per tonne from £479.28 to £157.50.
