The work of craftsmen and interior designers will be recognised in this year’s Jersey Architecture Design Awards.
The award scheme, a joint enterprise between the Department of the Environment and the Association of Jersey Architects, is held every two years to celebrate and promote high quality design.
The competition, which closes this Friday at noon (16 June), is open to Jersey architects, designers and developers who have delivered a project between 2015 and 2017 that they think has contributed positively to the built environment of Jersey.
There are two new categories this year. Best Interior aims to celebrate the interior design of new or refurbishment projects and the Patron’s Medal, presented by the Association of Jersey Architects Patron, Colin Perchard will be chosen by popular vote on awards night.
Another category, Best Art Work in the Public Domain, has been expanded to include entries from a wider range of industries. It aims to recognise the contribution of skilled crafts people and their expertise in contemporary or traditional materials to enhancing the quality and design of a project.
The awards are judged by members of the Jersey Architecture Commission and a guest judge and the winning designs will be featured in a public exhibition as part of Architecture Week in September this year.
President of the Association of Jersey Architects, Colin Buesnel said “I would actively encourage the Island’s architects to fully participate in the Jersey Architecture 2017 Design Awards and to use this opportunity to showcase and promote their talents and design skills.”
The last Jersey Design Awards, in 2015, attracted 79 entries and winning entries represented a wide range of high quality buildings and landscapes, including Le Squez housing development (phase 2) and the Wetlands Centre, St Ouen, Napier House, St Mary village improvement scheme, and Jersey Hospice.
