New planning application submitted for Les Quennevais School

17 July 2017

A revised planning application has been submitted for a new Les Quennevais secondary school on the fields that border La Route de Quennevais.

Issues raised by the independent planning inspector at a hearing in January have been addressed. As a result, the £40 million scheme now has a different traffic flow system and parking layout on site. The design of the school has also been changed to reflect comments of the Jersey Architecture Commission about the exterior appearance, use of materials and other technical elements.

Education Minister Deputy Rod Bryans said 'The new Les Quennevais School is well overdue and I am pleased that the project is moving forward. It will be the single largest investment in education for many years and I am delighted to see it entering the next phase. Parents, staff and students will be pleased to see it is progressing.

'I would like to thank the team at Jersey Property Holdings for  their continued diligence on this important project and for sharing our enthusiasm to create a new school in the west.'

Infrastructure Minister Deputy Eddie Noel said 'This is a large and complex building and my department has been working extremely hard over the past year and will continue to do so to ensure we deliver a high-quality modern school.'

The estimated build time for the new Les Quennevais School is two years from receipt of planning permission. The target date for opening to students remains September 2020.

The site was the preferred option of 67% of people who responded to a public consultation in autumn 2015.

The planning application plus the supporting documents will be available on this website once registered by the Planning Department. This investment of £40m is part of the planned £168 million which has been allocated to capital projects for the period of the Medium Term Financial Plan 2016-19.
