Jersey to exhibit at major French agricultural show

21 February 2018

The Minister for Economic Development, Tourism, Sport and Culture, Senator Lyndon Farnham, will lead a delegation representing Jersey at one of France’s most significant agricultural shows in Paris on 24 February 2018.

The Salon International de l’Agriculture (SIA) is one of the world’s largest and most important agricultural shows, attracting around 700,000 people, including senior politicians.

Now in its sixth year of exhibiting at the event, Jersey has developed strong links with regional contacts in Normandy, and continues to benefit from the support of the Channel Islands’ regional office, the Bureau des Iles Anglo-Normandes, which is based in Saint-Contest in Calvados. The department of La Manche will once again host Jersey on their stand, giving the Island an opportunity to promote its agriculture and to continue to grow its database of potential future visitors.

Senator Farnham will attend the event alongside representatives from his department and Farm Jersey. During his visit, he will meet the President of Normandy (and leader of the Centrist party) Hervé Morin, and the President of La Manche, Marc Lefèvre.

Senator Farnham said “The SIA is a high-profile event and, as such, provides an important opportunity to build on existing political, economic and cultural links with Normandy. Our attendance at an agricultural show of this calibre is not only an asset for the Island’s industry but also a chance to foster relationships between Jersey and France at regional and national levels.”

Chief Executive of Farm Jersey, John Garton, added “Visitors to the Jersey area on the Normandy stand will be able to taste a variety of Genuine Jersey products and learn about Jersey and our four main agricultural exports of oysters, lobsters, Jersey Royals and dairy products. They will also have a chance to win a weekend break provided by Visit Jersey. By showcasing some of our most renowned and authentic Jersey produce, we’ll be supporting efforts to build an attractive and rounded picture of what Jersey has to offer.”
