25 October 2018
Broad Street is due to be closed to traffic from 8.30am to 4pm this Sunday (28 October) so that changes can be made to two zebra crossings at Charing Cross.
The crossing immediately next to the toad statue will be removed and the crossing closest to King Street will be doubled in width.
The work was planned last year as part of the area’s development and, since then, foot traffic has been monitored to ensure that the extended zebra crossing will be in the place most beneficial to pedestrians.
The existing road will be repaired and replaced with an anti-skid surface before the new zebra crossing markings are added. The markings can only be applied when the weather is warm and dry, so the work will only be carried out on Sunday if the weather allows.
It is being completed on a Sunday outside of the busy summer season to minimise disruption to the public. Christmas decorations will be put up at the same time, to take advantage of the road closure.
