24 May 2018
New webpages have been added to the Data Protection section of gov.je in preparation for the introduction tomorrow (25 May 2018) of Jersey’s new data protection laws.
The purpose of the new webpages is to:
- provide information on Jersey’s new data protection laws
- explain how the States of Jersey looks after people’s data
- outline an individual’s rights to see the information that the States of Jersey holds about them
The webpages have been uploaded before 25 May 2018, when Jersey’s new data protection laws and the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will both come into effect.
The Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018 and the Data Protection Authority (Jersey) Law 2018 will give people more rights over their personal data.
The laws will provide the same levels of protection for personal data as GDPR, and will also allow Jersey businesses to continue accessing international markets.
