The Hospital Policy Development Board has completed an early piece of work as part of its assurance review of the evidence for a new hospital.
The Board is reviewing the decision to build a new hospital on the existing site, made by the Council of Ministers and the States Assembly. It is also examining the work already carried out by the Future Hospital project.
The Chair of the Hospital Project Board, Connétable Christopher Taylor, said: “We’ve made a good start and can confirm we believe that the evidence for a new hospital is clear.
“We’re now reviewing the evidence used by the Council of Ministers so we can either provide assurance over the decision for the current site, or raise concerns over the evidence that led to this decision.
"We’re keen to involve members of the public and a number have been in touch, but we would remind people that our terms of reference are very precise. We will not be carrying out a new site selection review or carrying out any additional work during this initial phase of our work.”
Connétable Taylor says the Board will only commission extra work if it finds gaps in the evidence, or if it finds that the decision on site selection by the Council of Ministers was based on incomplete evidence.
He also said the Board accepts that work on the current States-approved site should continue unless clear evidence to the contrary emerges.
The initial review is expected to be completed in October and the findings will be made public.
