The Treasury Minister has approved further funding to help establish a modern, customer-focused, value-for-money and joined-up public service.
A number of projects are under way to improve key areas of the States’ administration. They are all being funded from current and underspent 2017 budgets and are intended to accelerate the transformation of the public sector. These include projects to speed up the pace of change in Children’s Services, to support the upcoming Ofsted report on Children’s Services, to enable culture change throughout the organisation and to modernise financial management.
The States of Jersey’s transformation programme also includes a recruitment exercise for the most senior tiers of leadership to ensure that people with the right skills are appointed to leadership posts. A resourcing partner is being engaged to ensure best practice throughout the recruitment process.
To support the move to different ways of working in the proposed new organisational structure, a central team – made up of internal and external experts – will be established to oversee phase one of implementing the changes.
Other projects due to start soon will strengthen senior leadership and build closer partnerships with the Parishes.
