Skills Jersey has relocated to town in a move that will create a more efficient and joined-up service to children, young people, lifelong learners and employers.
Previously based in five different offices at two locations, the Skills Jersey team will now be working from one base in Green Street, in between the roundabout and the entrance to Green Street car park.
Skills Jersey offers a wide range of services including confidential and impartial careers guidance to people of all ages, mentoring, apprenticeships, work placements, work shadowing schemes and links between schools, colleges, universities, industry and other education training providers.
The move to Bermuda House means that Skills Jersey can offer more events and services, including careers and skills events and forums and workshops aimed at parents, students, career changers and industry bodies to help promote the skills needed for Jersey and the pathways available to help plug any future skills gaps.
Skills Jersey operations manager Stuart Penn said that the move would reduce duplication and improve communication across the teams.
“The Skills Show is a huge and successful event but only happens annually,” he said. “Skills Jersey can now look to provide regular mini insights for children, parents and career changers into the skills needed and utilised by a variety of industries. Likewise, employers and industry bodies have a centre that they can now use to promote the skills used in their workplace, or to provide myth-busting workshops about the culture or pay in their industry. Islanders now truly have an impartial skills centre to provide them with guidance and support.”
The Education Minister, Senator Tracey Vallois, said: “The move to improved facilities means that Skills Jersey can enhance its high-quality service by delivering more support and events for islanders, whatever stage they are at in their education or careers. This is an example of the benefits in joining together as part of One Gov.”
