Report published on arts, culture and heritage

27 November 2018

The findings of a government-funded review into Jersey’s culture, arts and heritage has been published. The report, by BOP Consulting, contains 20 detailed recommendations which are being considered by Deputy Montfort Tadier, the Assistant Minister for Economic Development, Tourism, Sport and Culture.

“This report provides a very useful overview of the Culture, Arts and Heritage (CAH) sector in Jersey.” Deputy Tadier said: “It highlights many positives, confirming that Jersey punches above its weight in the range and quality of its culture, as well as emphasising the vital cross-cutting role it plays in terms of economy, education, international diplomacy and general wellbeing.

“However, it also presents significant criticism of the relatively low levels of government funding that have been dedicated to CAH over many years, highlighting challenges that, both strategic and structural that will need to be addressed in the short and medium term, as well as a variety of recommendations.”

The report was commissioned by Deputy Tadier’s predecessor, Deputy Murray Norton.

Deputy Tadier said: “I am grateful to both BOP and the former Deputy for their work in getting us to this point. I would like to thank the many stakeholders who contributed to review by giving evidence and sharing their experiences. I am committed to making sure that cultural organisations in Jersey are adequately funded, supported and encouraged so they can continue their excellent work.”
