Jersey’s Customs and Immigration Officers working at the harbour had a busy weekend as a result of a commercial drugs seizure and an immigration refusal.
Drugs with a street value of approximately £1.6 million were discovered on Saturday 16 June, from a Porsche Cayenne, which arrived on the Condor Rapide from St Malo.
As a result of questioning by officers and a subsequent search of the vehicle, the following was discovered:
59 kgs of Cannabis Resin
1 kg of Cocaine
3.2 kgs of MDMA
A 69 year old man, from Antrim, Northern Ireland, has been charged with an infraction of Article 61 (2) of the Customs and Excise (Jersey) Law 1999 and will appear in the Magistrate’s Court on
Monday 18 June.
Immigration Refusal
On the same day, an American national presented himself at the Immigration Control, on the Albert Pier, having travelled with Manche Iles from Granville.
During the course of questioning, officers established that the American national had previously been refused entry to the UK by Border Force Officers on 21 May 2018 at Gatwick Airport, and on 28 May 2018 at Coquelles, when he had attempted to travel to Portsmouth via the Euro Tunnel.
The American national was not deemed a genuine visitor and was refused leave to enter the Island. He remained in Immigration detention until his removal to Granville at 6.30pm that day.
