Jersey Library takes part in International Games Week

02 November 2018

Jersey Library is taking part in International Games Week from 5–10 November. Pop-up games spaces have been set up for people to play some of the games on offer, or to bring their own.

International Games Week is a global initiative which aims to connect communities through their local libraries, bringing people together to play classic board games and to discover new activities.  The week highlights the educational, recreational and social value of all types of games.

On Saturday 10 November Jersey Library is inviting islanders to a ‘Beetle Drive’ from 2pm. This is a classic British dice game which is easy-to-learn and a great way to meet new people.

Jersey Heritage will also be at the Library on Thursday 8 November from 11am – 12pm with the original Occupation board game. The game was a light-hearted form of resistance for a number of islanders during the Occupation. Visitors will be able to play a reproduction of the game, and find out more about a pastime that was largely forgotten until its rediscovery earlier this year.

Ed Jewell, Chief Librarian, said: “We are looking forward to taking part in this international celebration of games, old and new.  It’s a great opportunity for people to make new friends and learn something new, while having a lot of fun.”
