Revamped toddlers play area re-opens in Coronation Park

27 March 2018

The Department for Infrastructure has replaced all the old play equipment in the toddlers play area in Coronation Park and it has now re-opened ready for the Easter holidays.

The old play equipment was nearly 30 years old and looked tired and dated.

There is a completely new bright look now with modern equipment conforming to current design and safety standards.

The replacement project, which cost approximately £245,000, started in early February and the play area had to remain closed during the refit.

Pupils from Bel Royal School with the Minister for Infrastructure, Deputy Eddie Noel and the Connétable of St Lawrence reopened the play area on Tuesday 27 March.

In general, the new equipment is designed for children between the ages of three and six. However, there will also be certain pieces such as cradle swings and rockers that are suitable for younger children.

The main central feature incorporates a run of various different activity elements for children to play on together.

Other equipment includes swings, rockers, a see-saw, trampolines and roundabouts.

So no one is left out, a lot of the equipment has been designed to allow disabled children with special needs to play alongside able bodied children.  One example of this inclusive equipment is the roundabout which is suitable for wheelchairs.

Deputy Eddie Noel, Minister for Infrastructure said, “This is a fabulous play area for little children. It’s bright and current with equipment which is safe but also exciting, challenging and innovative. It’s going to give hours of enjoyment to a lot of youngsters, who’ll want to come back again and again.”
