The second phase of resurfacing work on La Grande Route de St Clement is set to take place over next week’s half term school holidays.
The road will be closed between Plat Douet Road and Marina Avenue from 9am on Saturday 27 October and is scheduled to reopen at 11pm on Sunday 4 November. During that time, access to premises and businesses will be maintained, but will be restricted when the final surface is laid. FB fields will remain accessible via one of the two entrances on to the main road. Motorists are asked to look out for the current diversion route, which will be published on the States web pages.
The work is part of a three-phase resurfacing project on La Grande Route de St Clement. The first phase was over the summer holidays and the final section, outside the Samares Nurseries housing development, will be resurfaced when the new homes are nearing completion.
Highways Maintenance Manager, Andy Downie, said: “Some sections of La Grande Route de St Clement were last resurfaced more than 30 years ago, so this project is really important. The resurfacing will cause some disruption for motorists and commuters, and we’re sorry for that, but it is vital in order to keep the road safe and well maintained.
“We’re aware that this road is particularly heavily used during term time, so we have arranged for the resurfacing project to take place in phases over the school holidays to try to minimise disruption to the public.”
The main diversion routes during the closure period will be via Rue a Don and St Clement’s Coast Road.
Bus route 1A will continue to operate, but some scheduled services may be delayed. Liberty Bus will provide up to date bus information on their website.
The States of Jersey roadworks web pages will also provide updates on the progress of the work.
