Conference for primary school teachers

12 September 2018

More than 300 primary school teachers are expected to attend a learning conference tomorrow to discuss high-quality teaching (Thursday 13 September).

As all schools are closed tomorrow for Battle of Britain day, a conference has been organised for primary school teachers to gather together and share teaching experiences.

Members of the Standards and Achievement Team from the Children, Young People, Education and Skills Department are hosting the “Teaching and Learning Conference” tomorrow at Haute Vallée School.

The conference will focus on high-quality teaching and the sharing of best practice and there will be presentations on a number of topics, including:

  • the value and application of educational research from across the world
  • how to develop the use of quality feedback for pupils
  • the training available for teachers of French
  • early language development
  • behaviour for learning

The conference will also cover the qualifications and seminars available to teachers from the Chartered College for Teaching.

David Berry, Director of Standards and Achievement, said: “This is a valuable opportunity for colleagues from all the schools involved to discuss their experience and approaches, to ask questions and to share examples that have worked well for them and their pupils.

"By supporting teachers and celebrating quality teaching – both on Island and in other jurisdictions – we can provide the best possible education for children and young people, now and in the future.”
