Trackers celebrates as more apprentices 'graduate'

03 October 2018

The fifth cohort of islanders to complete their apprenticeships with the Trackers programme will ‘graduate’ at a special ceremony on Thursday, 4 October.

The apprentices’ achievements will be recognised this week at the inaugural Trackers Graduation Ceremony at Hautlieu. The occasion will involve speeches from apprentices, employers and training providers as well as the presentation of certificates to all graduates. Employers from a wide range of businesses will join their apprentices at the celebration.

Among the 101 individuals who have completed Trackers training courses, there are electricians, digital professionals, retailers, hairdressers and veterinary nurses.

Education Minister, Senator Tracey Vallois, who is attending the ceremony tomorrow evening said: “Congratulations to all of the apprentices on their achievements and also to the mentors who support each apprentice and work with their employer to ensure both sides get the maximum benefit from Trackers. The Trackers model is unique to Jersey and the success rate so far has been well ahead of other apprenticeship schemes. Other jurisdictions including Ireland, Scotland, Wales and numerous EU countries have enquired about the programme, which has a strong mentor system to support both the employee and the employer throughout the whole apprenticeship.”

A total of 42 of the apprentices have completed apprenticeships at Level 2, 55 at Level 3, and the remaining 4 have completed professional certification in the digital sector.

 Trackers currently has:

  • 350 islanders enrolled, 180 of whom started this year
  • 25 different apprenticeships on offer
  •  Partnerships with over 200 different employers.

This year, Trackers also launched a new Civil Engineering apprenticeship at HNC level after identifying an island-wide skills gap with industry.  Applicants to this apprenticeship will then have the chance to progress to degree level. Also launched was a degree apprenticeship in Information and Technology Solutions in partnership with KPMG, as well as a new Barbering apprenticeship to run alongside the existing Hairdressing apprenticeship.
