More than 3,000 career changers, job seekers and students found out about the diverse opportunities and training available across the island’s industries at this year’s Jersey Skills Show.
Held on Friday, the fifth annual Jersey Skills Show featured 101 stands – more than ever before – from across a number of local industries, giving islanders a chance to try their hand at a variety of roles, from digital coding to preparing sushi.
As well as students getting ready for life after school, the event attracted the highest number of career changers and adult visitors compared to previous years, as well as several islanders who had been made redundant.
The Assistant Minister for Education, Deputy Jeremy Maçon, who opened this year’s Jersey Skills Show, said: “This is Jersey’s largest skills and careers event and is getting bigger each year. There were more exhibitors than we’ve ever had before, including representatives from construction, agriculture, retail, finance, business, hospitality, law, care, sport and the armed forces. There were also more Government of Jersey departments joining the show, including eco active, Children’s Services, Health and Community Services, Fire and Rescue Service, States of Jersey Police and States of Jersey Prison Service.
“There were a lot more interactive stands this year and much more engaging conversations with visitors. There was also lots of feedback stating this was the best year yet.”
Sponsored by Grant Thornton, the Jersey Skills Show is a chance for islanders young and old to find out about career opportunities on-island, offering information about training, apprenticeships and further education as well as practical advice from people working in the industry.
