Volunteers' Week to celebrate valued workers

30 May 2019

A week dedicated to thanking volunteers across the island will celebrate the value they bring to island life.

Volunteers’ Week, which begins on Saturday 1 June, will recognise the various roles volunteers hold in many parts of society such as supporting a range of charities and voluntary organisations, carrying out Parish duties or helping a sports or social club.

The week will showcase the work that is achieved, which often goes unseen by the public, and which adds so much to island life.

The Chief Minister, Senator John Le Fondré said: “We are incredibly lucky in Jersey to have over 10,000 volunteers regularly working across a diverse network of charities and voluntary organisations. The work these volunteers do is undeniably valued not only by those who directly benefit from the services that are delivered but through the rippling effect it has on the island as a whole. This week marks a celebration of their outstanding achievements as we thank them all for their time, hard work and dedication.”

Alan Le Pavoux from volunteer.je said: “We’ve had such a fantastic response from volunteers who are happy to share their experiences for Volunteers’ Week. There are some great opportunities still available to fit a range of skills, interests and lifestyles. Volunteering is known to be a rewarding, positive experience which can help boost mental wellbeing and any amount of time you could give is of huge value. ”

Whilst large numbers of islanders already give up their time to volunteer, there are a range of opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to dedicate their time towards making a difference.
