A Book of Condolence has been opened for islanders to pay tribute to the late Colin Powell CBE, who died earlier this month. The book has been placed in the reception area of the Government of Jersey building on Broad Street, and it will be available until Friday 7th June.
Colin started working for the States of Jersey as Economic Advisor in 1969 and was working as International Affairs Advisor when he died at the age of 81.
At his funeral yesterday Jersey’s Bailiff, Sir William Bailhache, described Colin as an astute operator with a first rate intellect, an unmatched work ethic, and personal charm. He said “Men like Colin Powell come along only rarely. In Jersey we are so fortunate that he came to us and that he liked us enough to want to stay.”
The Book of Condolence is in the reception at 19-21 Broad Street all this week and from Tuesday to Friday next week. Members of the public are welcome to come in and contribute to the book.
While there, they can also view the oil painting of Colin commissioned by Jersey Heritage in 2009 and painted by local artist, Jason Butler.
