The Minister for Education is hosting an engagement day for parents, professionals and providers of Early Years services, to identify how Early Years policy can be developed to ensure all children have the best start in life.
The event is being held in the Royal Hotel, David Place, Jersey, on Friday 12 July. An invited audience will be working together during the morning to identify priorities for future policy development.
Islanders are invited to participate in two open drop-in sessions at the same venue from 2–3.30pm and 6–7.30pm.
Views will be welcome on:
- how can Early Years services be developed to ensure that all children have the best start?
- how can the Government support families during the pre-school year and in the year before nursery?
- what are the opportunities to strengthen early language skills at home and in Early Years settings?
Senator Tracey Vallois said: “We want to fully engage with members of the public and providers of Early Years services in order to fully understand the issues and requirements.
“The evidence from experts is clear: children’s Early Years experiences shape their development, educational attainment and life chances. Children who receive high-quality services in the Early Years from conception onwards are more likely to have a positive attitude to learning when they start school, be more resilient, and have better learning, development and health outcomes overall. I want that for all Jersey children.
“The purpose of these sessions is to generate as much local insight as possible in order to assist the Early Years Policy Development Board develop future policy.”
The Early Years Policy Development Board has been established to examine the provision of Early Years services from conception to aged five and to develop a shared strategic policy position across Early Years. This includes ensuring all children have the best start, proposals for Early Childhood Education in Jersey and the delivery of Early Help for children and families.
