Chance for islanders to explore Jersey’s largest engineering project

17 September 2019

The Festival of Engineering, on Saturday, 28 September, is a chance for islanders to see behind the scenes at the new sewage treatment works being constructed at Bellozanne by Growth, Housing and Environment in partnership with the principal contractor, nmcn.

Guided tours of the construction site and the existing sewage treatment works, which take around an hour in total, are running from 10am to 3.30pm, which can be booked on Eventbrite.

The festival, which is being coordinated by Skills Jersey, will also enable visitors to talk to the project team about their careers roles in the multi-million-pound project. Skills Jersey staff will also be available to talk about the possible career options in the engineering industries.

Skills Jersey Operations Manager Stuart Penn said: “Engineering is a career that often involves finding solutions to complex problems. It can involve travelling, working outdoors, and a whole range of specialist roles.

“I suspect that many people don’t realise just how rewarding it could be as a career, whether they are changing a career or thinking about what they want to do after school. This is an opportunity to chat to engineers about what they actually do, and to get an understanding of what happens behind the hoardings.

“For other people, this will simply be a chance to see behind the scenes at a major government project and to understand why this investment is being made. Whatever the reason, I hope that people will come and visit.”
