More pupils than ever before have achieved the higher grades of 7-9 and A/A* across Jersey this year. More than a quarter of grades achieved by Jersey pupils were at this level and the overall pass rate has remained steady.
This is the third year that pupils’ results have combined the reformed GCSE qualifications, which are graded 9 to 1, with some remaining legacy A* to G GCSE qualifications and a range of International GCSE qualifications (IGCSEs).
Results for Year 11 pupils
This year, 985 Year 11 pupils were entered for a total of 7,604 GCSE or IGCSE examinations. The pass rate for Year 11 pupils in 2019 was 97.9 per cent.

Results for all entries
This is the second year in which provisional results for entries this summer by students of all ages has been collated for Jersey; this includes those pupils in Years 9 and 10 taking exams early, those in Years 12 and 13 taking resits, as well as external entrants.
Jersey pupils of all ages who were entered, took 8,158 GCSE or IGCSE examinations, with a pass rate of 97.8 per cent.
Results show that 24.5 per cent of entries resulted in grades A/7 and above, and 73.5 per cent at grade C/4 and above.
Although not directly comparable to results for England, due to the inclusion of IGCSE results in Jersey, indications are that 73.5 per cent of entries in Jersey resulted in grade C/4 or above, 6.4 percentage points higher than results published for England.

Students taking Level 2 vocational qualifications (equivalent to GCSE grades 4-9) have done well. At Highlands College the 138 students taking the Jersey Progression Qualification in one year have achieved a 92 per cent pass rate with 52% per cent of students achieving Distinction* (equivalent to 4 GCSEs at grade A*) or Distinction (equivalent to 4 GCSEs at grade A) for their full Diploma.
Once appeals and re-marks have been completed, more detailed analysis of the results, including results for the vocational and technical qualifications taken by students in Year 11, will be undertaken and published later in the academic year.
