A statement has been issued in response to the Europe-wide shortage of HRT:
There is a Europe-wide shortage of some HRT products (not all) which has been ongoing for some time. This is affecting Jersey, just as it is Guernsey and the UK.
The Royal College of Gynaecologists and the British Menopause Society are aware of this and have suggested alternative preparations which can be used. Jersey Hospital’s Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist says there are many different types of HRT available and these supply difficulties should not cause a major problem.
Women who use HRT are advised to discuss availability and alternative treatments when they next see their GP.
Jersey's Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, Dr Fiona Nelson, said: “We do understand that women may be worried by this shortage, but this is a Europe-wide issue which is unrelated to Brexit. We would advise women to discuss alternative brands of HRT with their GP, to ensure their supply is not interrupted.”
