26 September 2019
Additional time is required to complete the resurfacing of Longueville Road, and the junction with Rue Saint Thomas will now be closed this Sunday, 29 September, between 9am and 8pm.
The junction has been closed for the last two Sundays, and there have been lane closures during weekday evenings, but an extra day is required.
Rob Cabot, Highway Maintenance Manager, said: “I would like to apologise for any disruption the extended timeframe might create and thank islanders in advance for their patience. We have carried out the work so far in the evenings and at the weekends to avoid disruption for school and commuter traffic but we need one more Sunday to finish off the project because the road was in such poor condition. By closing it for an additional Sunday, we are ensuring that the road’s substructure is capable of withstanding the demands placed on it as a main artery for many years to come.”
During the Sunday closure:
- access to Longueville Manor Hotel will be from the west of the junction
- access to Rue des Pres Trading Estate will be from the east only
- residents of Rue des Pres will only be able to access from the south, and
- residents of Rue Saint Thomas will only be able to access from the north.
Updates about the project, and details of diversion routes, will be available on the roadworks page.
The second stage of the project – the addition of a high friction surface – is expected to take place four to five weeks after this first phase is completed. Further information will be issued when a date for the second stage is decided.
