Transfer of ministerial responsibilities

13 February 2019

The Chief Minister has approved various transfers of functions among Ministers, reflecting new responsibilities under their departments. The changes will align more effectively with the Council of Ministers' priorities.

Responsibility for Children’s Services and the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) is being transferred from the Minister for Health and Social Services to the Minister for Children and Housing. This will enable the Children’s Minister to focus on the commitment to put children first.

Responsibility for the Ambulance Service, which was previously with the Minister for Health and Social Services, will now move to the Minister for Home Affairs, which will enable a more streamlined department within Justice and Home Affairs.

Chief Minister, Senator John Le Fondré, said: “These moves are part of a process of focusing on the priorities set out by this Government in its Common Strategic Policy. It will enable the Council of Ministers to deliver these in the most effective manner possible.”

More functions are being assigned to the Minister for Economic Development, Tourism, Sport and Culture, supporting work to deliver economic growth that is sustainable, coherent, and productivity-driven.

The transfer of responsibility for financial services to the External Relations Minister will better protect and promote the industry internationally, especially in a post-Brexit environment.

These moves will ultimately enable the Chief Minister to focus on the strategic direction of government, to work on meeting the priorities proposed in the Common Strategic Policy, and to prioritise engagement with States Members.
