Car parking charges will increase this week by 3.7% to take account of inflation and rates costs.
From Friday 1 March, the cost of parking will rise from 82p per unit to 85p.
The Minister for Infrastructure, Deputy Kevin Lewis, has approved the increase based on the Retail Price Index for last September of 3.8%, as well as parish and island-wide rates owed by the States of Jersey for multi-storey and surface carparks. The rise will also allow work to continue on refurbishing island car parks.
Deputy Lewis said: “A price increase is never welcome but it is important that our car parks are well maintained and that there are ample funds for sustainable transport and road safety initiatives. Jersey parking charges still remain some of the least expensive in the British Isles.”
Season tickets are also to increase by 3.7% to £137.30 per month for a standard permit. This represents a saving of 15% compared to parking five days a week for nine hours and paying by the unit.
