"Let's Be Honest" social worker recruitment campaign wins national award

The Government of Jersey’s ‘Let’s be Honest’ social worker recruitment campaign has been recognised at the highest levels by the recruitment marketing profession at an awards ceremony in London.

The successful campaign to recruit more children’s social workers in Jersey　has won the Recruitment Effectiveness award for 2019.

The campaign was launched by the Government to build a more permanent and highly-skilled workforce of social workers and almost 400 people have enquired about these roles.

This month, colleagues from Children’s Services attended the Compass Recruitment Fayre, in the UK, as part of the ongoing recruitment campaign. Another 70 people registered their interest in working in Jersey.

Children's Minister Senator Sam Mézec said: "The Let’s Be Honest recruitment campaign has been a huge success, and it has been deservedly recognised by a prestigious award.

"Having a stable and highly-skilled workforce of social workers is crucial as we seek to protect the welfare of our most vulnerable children and young people in Jersey.

"I am delighted to announce that 22 new social workers have so far been recruited, and 15 of them have already started their roles, with two due to begin imminently and a further five in the final stages of the process.

"Some of our agency social worker staff are also becoming permanent staff, which shows an increase in confidence in the improvements in Jersey’s Children’s Services and is excellent news as we work towards building a sustainable workforce."

The national recruitment campaign involved an open and honest letter from the Children’s Minister and Director General of Children, Young People, Education and Skills setting out the reasons why we need to attract and recruit social workers to the Island.

The final recruitment fair will take place next month in London.
