Taxi and cab tariffs to increase

16 July 2019

The Minister for Infrastructure, Deputy Kevin Lewis, has agreed a 3.4% increase in taxi and cab tariffs, in line with the rate of inflation.

The Minister reviews taxi and cab tariffs each year with reference to the Retail Price Index (Taxi). This is a special index, which is calculated independently by Statistics Jersey to reflect the costs of commercial motoring. It is currently in line with the underlying RPI.

DVS has now written to taxi drivers to let them know about the tariff increases, and to invite them to DVS to have their meters tested and sealed.

Once the increase comes into effect, the new tariffs will be

  • Tariff 1 (Monday to Saturday, 7am to 11pm) – £3.06, plus 23p for every 10th of a mile

  • Tariff 2 (Monday to Saturday, 11pm to 7am; all day Sunday; public holidays) – £3.16, plus 33p for every 10th of a mile

  • Tariff 3 (Christmas Eve and Boxing Day, 7pm to 7am, and from 7pm on New Year’s Eve until 7am on 2 January) – £5.42, plus 36p for every 10th of a mile.

These tariffs are set for all journeys from a designated rank; prices may vary for pre-booked journeys. More details can be found on gov.je.

The changes mean that a standard daytime journey from a St Helier rank to the Airport (around 4.6 miles) will typically rise from £13.13 to approximately £13.64.
