Jersey’s Deputy Chief Minister is attending a 3-day inward investment summit in Washington DC next week. Senator Lyndon Farnham will be leading a small delegation to the Select USA Inward Investment Summit, which is a flagship event run by the United States Department of Commerce.
The summit is hosted by the United States Secretary for Commerce, Wilbur Ross, and attracts global attendees, including senior U.S. officials, Governor-level representation from many U.S. States, and trade-focused bodies from all States.
This is the first time Jersey has attended the event, which reflects a commitment to the island’s strategic relationship with the USA.
Senator Farnham will be meeting business leaders, US officials and Economic Development representatives from across the USA, and will in particular continue the ongoing dialogue with New Jersey. He said; “We are attending this three-day event to increase the visibility of the island in the US market.
“I will be working to develop our access to US decision makers, and to support the work of Jersey Business by encouraging business flows between Jersey and the U.S. We have longstanding historical connections with the State of New Jersey and I look forward to further strengthening these during the Summit.”
The USA is Jersey’s third fastest growing market region in Financial Services. Jersey Finance is opening a North America office in New York later this year. Government to government engagement will help to increase the visibility of the office, and enhance understanding of Jersey’s economic and tax model.
