Islanders are being encouraged to spend the balance of their Spend Local cards as soon as possible to avoid a last-minute rush on Saturday, when the balance will expire.
Anyone who needs extra support over the last few days of the scheme can contact the Spend Local team on (01534) 444444. The team will also be available on Saturday 31 October between 10am and 5pm.
So far, the cards been used to generate £9 million for the local economy. As of this week, 102,700 cards have been activated and 97,000 Islanders have used their cards at least once.
Chief Minister John Le Fondre said: “We want to encourage all Islanders to spend their remaining balance in the next few days to avoid a last-minute rush on Saturday, which we know will be a busy day in town. Anyone who isn’t sure how much they have left on their card can check their balance at any regular bank ATM or online. They can also call 0800 735 0044.”
“Once the scheme comes to a close on Saturday, I’d encourage Islanders to continue the spirit of the scheme, spending locally with their favourite businesses and playing their part to help support and stimulate our local economy. With the 2% reduction in Social Security contributions, and more money in their pockets, I am confident Islanders will do their bit to continue to Spend Local.”
Islanders should keep their cards after 31 October, in case they are topped up in the future.
