The Government of Jersey’s department Growth, Housing and Environment has been renamed Infrastructure, Housing and Environment from today.
The name change, which will be implemented at zero cost, means the department’s name now reflects its main political portfolios and is supported by staff following consultation last year.
GHE was established as part of the One Government reorganisation in 2018 and involved the amalgamation of the departments for Infrastructure; Environment; and Economic Development, Tourism, Sport and Culture. Recently, Economy and Partnerships was transferred since to the Office of the Chief Executive, and IHE now includes:
- Natural Environment
- Operations and Transport
- Property Holdings
- Regulation
- Sport (operations)
The central administrative function for the four directorates is through IHE’s Office of the Director General.
IHE’s Acting Director General, Andy Scate said: “Changing the name shows that we have listened to the feedback given during the consultation in 2019, when our colleagues in the department suggested it.
“As a department, we continue to provide vital services across the Island, and I am tremendously proud of my colleagues and the service they provide to Jersey.”
